Entry Requirements

This is an open level competition, so no level of dance is required. * There is a $50AUD entry fee per couple for the qualifiers. Couples are required to select the genre of music they will be dancing to from:

 

  • Kizomba

  • Urban

  • Semba

Format

This is an open level competition.

  • All Competitors must be 18 years or older.

  • Couples perform on stage together to DJ selected music of the couples selected genre (Kizomba, Urban or Semba).

  • Couples perform to one piece of music between approximately 2:00 – 2:30 minutes long.

​

 

The judges will be looking for a good understanding of timing/rhythm, partnering, lead and follow, presentation and musicality as well as creativity & performance factor.

 

There are no restrictions on the combinations/moves being used except:

Lifts or tricks are NOT allowed.

Judging Criteria

Contestants will be judged and scored in the following three categories (10 points per category).

 

Technique

  • How clean are the movements.

  • Are all the movements being led correctly?

  • Does the ginga/styling conform to the genre

 

Musicality

  • Does the style of dance conform to the music (eg if a Kizomba song, are you dancing Kizomba)

  • Timing and interpretation of the music

 

Presentation

  • Costume

  • Presence and attitude

  • Connection between the partners
